Dennis' Family responding to our mayday call!
October
not only brought the fall colors but D's family. D's sister, Dawn, and her husband, Jerry, came and pitched in for 10 whole days!! Unfortunately, Jerry had just hurt his back at work the week before they came and he was in a lot of pain. But true to his nature, we couldn't keep him down. Every time I turned around he was working on something.
Great job on fixing the arm of this antique rocker, Jer! And for cutting the half moon in the outhouse closet door! Sorry, I couldn't find a pic to post.
Ds oldest sister, Glenda, and her husband, Tony, and her grandson, Gage, and her little dog, too, came and spent the night. Tony, after much contemplating, had finally figured out the crazy, screwed-up, 3-way switch for the stairwell! Yahoo! Thank you, thank you! It's the small things in life that really make a difference sometimes!

Let there be light |
With the kitchen in somewhat of a working order, we turned our attention to the master bath while we had the extra hands. The vanity and tub had to go! The doors on the vanity fell off the first time we tried to open a drawer and the tub had extra holes in weird places along with a big chip on one edge. Out with the old and in with the new! But first the shower had to be relocated to allow for a larger vanity. There's always a hidden cost and issues when you remodel!
Once everything was back in working order in the bathroom, we girls got to painting. I love the results but so hate the process. I never want to paint anything again!

Freshly painted walls and floor |
Our last project before we said goodbye to Dawn and Jerry was the kitchen island. Jerry and Dennis had to cut 2 Baltic butcher block countertops down to size and join them together using a biscuit joiner. After 24 hours of drying, Jerry and I got to staining them. We had debated about going with granite but liked the wood look for a cabin of this age. Glad we did!
It was once again time to say goodbye to family and to a debt we could never repay. Love you guys! See ya in July, 2021!
