August 2020

Home Sweet Home . . . Maybe?

Once we had gotten the 5th wheel set up at the park, we drove 2 miles down the road to get our first glimpse of the cabin.

As we pulled off the main highway into the hood, it became clear this might not have been one of our better decisions.  It looks like we had one again bought a home that was in need of repairs and was also not in the best of hoods!

Here we go again!

With much and I mean much discussion, we have decided to flip the house.  This was not an easy choice for us to make because we have flipped a few houses in the past and wanted out of that game.  For you guys that have only watched it on TV and never lived it in person, well let's just say you better have a good marriage going in for you are going to need that foundation to come out whole on the other side.

The first thing on the "do to list" was to acquire tools.  Most of the tools we had either sold, given away, or left for the new owners at our old house.  So pawn shop here we come!

Friendly's Pawn Shop

Sometimes you just gotta love small-town living.  Little did we know we would meet the Chief of Police at the pawn shop located close to our new neighborhood.  Not only does he work there but he owns it.  Good to know!

After chatting with Tom, the chief of police, we definitely felt safer knowing he owned several of the homes in the neighborhood.

the work begins!

On the top of our project list was to remodel the kitchen layout and get the electrical up to code.  This turned out to be a big nightmare.  From discovering open, live wires, hidden on the floor behind the cabinets, to bags and bags of dead ivy vines, and the nests of squirrels and mice in the walls, inaccessible crawl space, and last but not least improperly wired appliances to the point of a fire hazard/death trap!

My son and daughter-in-law surprised us with a second visit and boy were we glad!  During the first trip up, they had helped us find a living room set and a master bed so at least we would have something to sleep on and sit on during the construction.  Nothing like starting over with nothing!

Meeting our new granddog!  Welcome to family Huddy!

During this visit we put them to work immediately with the remodel!  Once Veronica got the hang of the nail gun she was unstoppable and Ryan definitely has skills with a saw!  Thanks, y'all, we owe you bunches!

Another big debt we owe is to a co-worker of D's.  Thanks, Brian for helping out with the electrical for the kitchen island.  I'm sure we would still be crying in our cereal trying to figure that one out!  What a nightmare it turned into being!  Any time you need a babysitter and we are in town, just give us a call!
